Google and Bing Webmaster Tool | Tricks

I’m going to show you how to monitor and help double your traffic using Webmaster Tools. I will also discuss what the most recent Webmaster Tools update is.
I’ve done SEO for many years, and several large companies. I’ve worked on sites with over 12 Million visits per month. I have also brought sites up from scratch personally to over 30,000 unique visits in under three months. I’ve been using Webmaster Tools for about four years, it is one of my favorite tools and I’ve used it to double my own traffic several times. I’m going to share those secrets with you here. Keep reading…

You may see a line in your Webmaster Tools Account Saying “Update”. Google just released an update to Webmaster Tools which is pretty awesome.
Google Webmaster Tools is one of the rare occasions we’re able to get information about your site directly from Google and Bing. Let’s discuss  how to properly set up Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Tools on your site, and how to use some of the tool’s basic features.
Using GWT correctly can give you insights about your website, marketing efforts and traffic that you won’t get from Google Analytics. Much like Google Analytics, though, GWT has a variety of functions and tools that you must master to find the SEO increase you’re looking for.

How to Set Up Bing and Google Webmaster Tools

Go to Bing or Google Webmaster tools website and sign in with your account. After signing in, add your website’s URL and hit the add new site button.
To work with GWT  or BWT  you must verify ownership of your website by adding a special code or file to your site.
Once you are logged into your GWT or BWT account, you will be presented with the option to add a site – a domain – for inclusion or view an existing site. A verification method is used to synchronize your site with the Bing or Google application. This verification file is created by either adding a (small code) meta tag on your Website or by uploading (to your Website’s Root Directory) an HTML file uniquely created by Google or Bing.
Then you verify that everything is correct and viola! You are now looking through Google Goggles and Bing Binoculars directly at your site!

How I Doubled Traffic with Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

These are the exact steps I have taken to double my own and other’s rank using Google Webmaster Tools.
The cool thing is – it’s not a one-time deal – as you increase rank do this as often as possible to hit new levels of traffic.
You can also focus on your ideal keywords to drive the type of traffic you want. Target the Keywords you really want.

Step 1. Search Queries – Change the Date to the Last 3 Months

Google only shows you three months worth of data. So you should go as far back as possible – you want to see what are your top URLs over a longer period of time.

Step 2. Download Your “Top URL’s” – Over The Last 3 Months.

Create a Spreadsheet. Begin your efforts by priority – start at the top. The highest traffic pages will get the best results immediately.
Sort your top URL’s based on impressions and you will see what your opportunity will be to increase rank right away using these techniques.

Step 3. Rewrite Each of Your Top Titles – Front-Load the Top Keywords in each Title.

Use your Keyword Insight on to rewrite each of your Titles’s based on what is ranking.
Make your Titles exciting! They are reason people click on your page. They are your Headline in Search Results. I have seen one headline pull 80% better than another – just by changing your headline to make it more exciting.
Note: Google cuts off your Title if it is too long.
Use a Cut and Paste Character Counter to see how long your Title is.
FRONT LOAD Keywords. You can get an instant boost in rank if you front-load keywords:
Example – “Top Keyword | Second Keyword | Third Keyword” – Move Your Top Keyword to The Front!
For example:  Let’s say you are ranking for  #1. Google Maps SEO  – #2. Google Places and #3. Local Listings – change your Title like this:

New Title: Google Maps SEO Secrets – Google Places and Local Listings’ Results
See? The top three keywords I was ranking for were added to the Title in the right order.
I have seen a 3,000% increase in rank after just changing the Title based on top keywords on that URL.

Step 4. Now Rewrite All of Your Descriptions on Each Top URL based on the top keywords.

Next – you do the same thing for each Description. Your Description is your Advertisement in Search Results.
Google and Bing also cut off Descriptions if they are too long.
The Ideal length for a Description in Google, Bing and Yahoo is 125 – 160 Characters!
Then copy your description and make it your first Paragraph in your article. Your description should mirror your content:

Step 5. Add new Content to Each Top Page –  Based on the Top Keywords Provided in GWT/BWT.

Note: Just by updating your page to be fresh and up-to-date will help improve your rank over competitors. Tweaking, adding and updating your content regularly will boost it’s rank.
Take the top ranking keywords and write a paragraph about them. Tailor your content to provide value on those keywords.

Step 6. Add Unique Images – Named After The Keywords (Use Captions if Possible).

Unique images is another way to rank. You should name the images after the top keywords and make sure they are great images too.
My suggestion – use “Creative Commons Share Alike” images at no cost. Flickr is a great place to find legal images to use.
There are some great free images here:  http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

Step 7. Add Share Buttons (Facebook Like, Twitter Follow and Google Plus+1) on the Page and Share It!

Making your content share-able and like-able is a must for improving rank. Add share buttons using plugins or a site like Sharethis and Addthis.
WordPress – I use “Digg Digg” and “Flare” plugins.

Step 8. Add an Info-Graphic to Each of Your Top Pages and Share it Again.

You don’t have to recreate the wheel – just give credit to the originators of the Info-Graphic. I usually put the Info-Graphic at the bottom of my content.

Step 9. Add a Video to Each Page – (You Don’t Need To Re-Invent The Wheel).

Once again, you don’t have to recreate the wheel – find a great video on YouTube or Bing that allows embedding and use their code on your page. I usually put videos after the second paragraph.

Step 10. Most of All – Add Value to Your Readers! (The Goal is to Make People Bookmark and Share Your Content).

Your goal is to get shares and likes as well as you want people bookmarking your content. The way to do this is to make your information valuable and exciting.
Think about it – Google has poured millions, if not billions into creating Google Chrome… for free? If they have their own browser – don’t you think they can look at obvious signals of good content, such as time on site, bookmarks, shares and time on that page?

PART 2 – ADD STRUCTURED DATA

Google Webmaster Tools Strategies
Now, let’s go over some important features of Google Webmaster Tools that SEO’s won’t tell you.
Structured Data:

‣Search Engines find it very difficult to determine what you  are talking about:

For Example
  • ‣“White House” are you talking about a white house or the White House?
  • ‣“Tiger Woods” are you talking about tigers in the woods or “Tiger Woods”?
  • ‣“Harry Potter” Talking about the movie or the book? Is it a review or an offer? To do this, the three top Search Engines (Google, Bing and Yahoo) decided to create a code to tell Search Engines what items you are describing. This is called “Schema Markup” by Schema.org

Let’s go over structured data. The Data Highlighter  can be found within Google Webmaster Tools under the Search Appearance section.
We have seen a 30% improvement when structured data is added to the page and you tell Google what you are talking about.
Use the Data Highligher! The tool works very similar to the Structured Data Markup Helper, but requires no modifications to a web page’s HTML code. The structured data categories available within the Data Highlighter mirror those in the Structured Data Markup Helper, but there is an additional option to include tags for similar pages, which could save time if you have multiple web pages that are a lot alike.
Google Sitemaps management is also available within Google Webmaster Tools – Sitemaps are great because they allow Search Engines to Index your content much faster. If you do not have a sitemap in Webmaster Tools, it can take weeks for Google or Bing to find your content. Whereas I have seen content indexed in a couple hours after submitting sitemaps! If you aren’t submitting a site map to Google using the Google Webmaster Tools, I highly recommend that you start.
Crawl Errors, Duplicate Descriptions and Duplicate Titles – missing pages and broken links are all shown in GWT and BWT – they should all be reduced to zero. Correct all errors and improve your site continually.

Conclusion

If you need help – we are always available to walk you through these actions.
Your new  mastery of Google Webmaster Tools is just one more useful tool in our Internet Marketing toolbox. What are some other strategies you recommend to improve rank?
